Monday - TSW complete part one of the T-CAP Coach pre-test. TSW check his or her test and make notes on any questions answered incorrectly. TSW share his or her science fair project topic with the teacher.

Homework: REMINDER - All missing assignments are due by Thursday upon arrival. NO EXCEPTIONS!

If you did not get your science fair packet signed by your parent, please do so. REMEMBER, your science fair project question, hypothesis and research are DUE this FRIDAY.

Tuesday - TTW review the T-CAP Coach exercises from Friday and Monday. TSW complete a classification exercise and submit his or her chapter 4 workbook pages.

Homework: Research your science fair project topic.

Wednesday - TSW create a dichotomous key using the classifying shoes activity on textbook page 83.

Homework: Research your science fair project topic. Remember, your question, hypothesis and research are due FRIDAY.

Thursday - TSW test another groups’ dichotomous key and write reflections for the dichotomous key activity. TSW use the Linnaeus’s system for taxonomy to name 12 specimens.

Homework: Research your science fair project topic. Remember, your question, hypothesis and research are due TOMOROW.

Friday - TSW submit his or her question, hypothesis and research for the science fair project.  TSW use extra-terrestrial life form characteristics to demonstrate mastery of classification systems.

Homework: - Begin collecting your science fair project materials.

Monday - TSW give an oral presentation for the marine ecosystem travel brochure. TSW complete a study guide for Chapter 5 Section 2. There will be Chapter 5 Section 2 (Aquatic Biomes) quiz on Thursday.

Homework: Study your Chapter 5 Section 2 study guide.

Tuesday - TTW review the Chapter 5 Section 2 study guide. TSW begin TCAP Coach exercises on the following topics: Abiotic and Biotic Factors, Metamorphosis and Mutualism, Commensalism & Parasitism.

Wednesday - TSW complete the TCAP Coach exercises and write sentences using select words from the classwork.

Thursday - TSW demonstrate mastery of aquatic biomes through a short quiz. TSW use the GMS Library Science Fair Book Cart to explore topics of interest for their Science Fair Projects.

Friday - TSW complete the mid-year Think Link assessment. TTW distribute & review Science Fair Project materials and expectations.

Homework:  Ask your parents to read and sign your science fair project packet.

Monday - TSW complete a Terrestrial Landforms study guide in prepartion for Friday’s quiz. TSW complete a biome critical thinking exercise in cooperative learning groups.

Homework: Study for this Friday’s quiz over terrestrial biomes.

Tuesday - TSW complete the following classwork assignments: p. 117 (section review), p.121 (section review), and a concept map using these terms (marine biome, ocean, coral reef, polar ice, estuary, intertidal area, algae, phytoplankton, zooplankton).

Wednesday - TSW write a description of a real or imagined freshwater experience/trip - something you did at a stream, lake or wetland (minimum 2 paragraphs).

Thursday - TTW review the Chapter 5 Section 1 Study Guide and TSW begin the Chapter 5 Review - due tomorrow (textbook page 127).  TSW work in cooperative learning groups to create a travel brochure for a marine ecosystem.  Each brochure should include information about the climate, recreation, wildlife, and conservation efforts.  This brochure is due Monday.

Friday - TSW demonstrate mastery of terrestrial landforms through a short quiz. TSW complete the marine ecosystem travel brochure.

Homework:  Place the finishing touches on your travel brochure.

Monday - TSW complete his or classroom biome project and TTW review class notes over terrestrial biomes.

Homework: Finish your biome song/poem.

Tuesday - TSW present his or her organism and share his or her song/poem with the class. TTW review all terrestrial biomes in preparation for next Wednesday’s test.

Monday - Veteran’s Day

Tuesday - TSW use temperature and rainfall data to categorize biomes and predict animals and plants indigenous to that area. (8.2.spi.2)

Homework - Chapter 5 Section 1 section review (textbook page 112). Please invite your parents to attend the GMS Spaghetti Supper, Book Fair and Open House this Thursday evening (the day after interims go home).

Wednesday - Friday - TSW create an organism indigenous to each of the terrestrial landforms and write a description of why each adaptation will allow the organism to survive in its biome. TSW choose one of the organisms to illustrate and label. TSW write a poem or song about the biome of his or her choice and present it to the class.

Each class will not meet between Wednesday an Friday due to the assemblies scheduled for Red Ribbon Week.  Also, I will not be in the classroom on Thursday and Friday afternoon.

Monday – TSW complete the chapter 3 study guide and an overhead assignment on chapter 3 section 2 content.

Chapter 3 Test this Thursday. (Learning Expectations 4.2 & 4.3) (8.4.spi3,5,6) Remember, all 3-D DNA Models are due Friday. (8.4.tpi.4)

Homework: Complete the chapter 3 review on pages 78-79.

Tuesday – TTW conduct a review of the chapter 3 content in preparation for Thursday’s test.

Homework: Study for Thursday’s test.

Wednesday – TSW work in cooperative learning groups to review study guide notes and create 3 multiple choice questions for assigned sections of the study guide.  Groups will rotate the questions and quiz one another.

Thursday – Chapter 3 Test. (Learning Expectations 4.2 & 4.3) (8.4.spi3,5,6)

Friday – TSW submit his or her 3-D DNA Model. (8.4.tpi.4)

Monday - TSW submit his or her chapter 2 review and mitosis/meiosis chart. TSW read chapter 3 and complete the complementary directed reading workbook pages. TTW lead students in a discussion of the differences between the various phases of mitosis and meiosis.

Homework - Study for Wednesday’s quiz.

Tuesday - All classes will not meet today due to Explore Exam Interest Inventory. TTW review the workbook pages for chapter 3 section 1 to which students will add notes. TTW emphasize that chapter 3 section 1 is memory work which must be applied to the concepts in chapter 3 section 2.

Homework - Continue reading chapter 3 and complete the directed reading workbook pages. Do not forget about Wednesday’s mitosis/meiosis quiz.

Wednesday - All classes will not meet due to the Explore Exam. All classes meeting will take the mitosis/meiosis quiz and complete the following: a DNA worksheet and a chapter 3 section 1 study guide.

Monday – TTW discuss the origin of germ cells and how this relates to meiosis. TSW take color coded notes on the phases of meiosis and label their meiosis charts with this new information.

Homework: Chapter 2 Test this Friday! Please study.

Tuesday – TSW complete the chapter 2 review (textbook pages 54 & 55) in preparation for Friday’s chapter 2 test.  TSW receive a completion grade for this assignment.

Wednesday – TSW complete a classwork assignment that covers the material from chapter 2 sections 1 and 2.

Homework: Merge your class notes on meiosis with you meiosis chart.

Thursday – TT & TSW discuss answers for the chapter 2 review and TSW will have an opportunity to present any final questions regarding tomorrow’s test.

Homework: Please study for tomorrow’s test.

Friday – TSW demonstrate mastery of Mendelian genetics and the phases of meiosis through a written assessment. (spi’s - 8.4.2, 8.4.3, 8.4.4; tpi’s - 8.4.5, 8.4.6,)

Monday – TTW make sure that students have recorded Chapter 1 Section 2 Vocabulary in their blue folders/binders. TTW review 7th grade concepts critical to grasping reproduction in eukaryotic organisms. TSW complete the mitosis side of his or her graphic organizer, which contrasts the differences between mitosis and meiosis. TTW show two Brain Pop videos on asexual reproduction and sexual reproduction. (Spi’s 8.4.3 & 8.4.3.4)

There will be a chapter 2 section 2 vocabulary quiz this Friday over the following terms: sex cells, homologous chromosomes, meiosis, sex chromosomes. Remember, terms from Chapter 2 Section 1 may be included on this quiz.

Do not forget about the Bunny Babies activity that we will complete in class on Friday. Remember to bring the materials that you and your group members agreed upon to construct your baby. You will also need to consider items such as tape and glue sticks.

Homework: Complete the mitosis side of your graphic organizer and study your notes from today.

Tuesday – TTW explain in detail each phase of the eukaryotic cell cycle (from interphase to cytokinesis) and TSW record a pictorial representation of the cycle in his or her notes. TTW review the workbook pages for Chapter 2 Section 2.

Homework: Please review your notes for Friday’s Chapter 2 Section 2 vocabulary quiz.

Wednesday – TTW review the cell cycle and TSW contrast somatic cells (body cells) & gametes (sex cells) and their replication process.

Homework: none

Thursday – TSW complete his or her mitosis vs. meiosis graphic organizer and explain the difference between male and female sex chromosomes.

Homework: Don’t forget to bring your materials to class for tomorrow’s Bunny Babies activity.

Friday – TSW demonstrate mastery of Chapter 2 Section 2 vocabulary through a short quiz. TSW apply his or her understanding of Mendelian genetics by constructing a Bunny Baby based on the genotype and phenotype data collected during last Friday’s class assignment.

Monday – TTW provide students with a study guide for this Wednesday’s Chapter 2 Section 1 Quiz. 1st /5th period – TSW enter data from the Tracing Traits Phenotype/Genotype inquiry in his or her composition notebooks. 2nd/4th period – TSW create a pedigree for the Tracing Traits inquiry and TTW give instructions for data collection. (Spi’s 8.4.3 & 8.4.3.4)

Homework: Complete your Chapter 2 Section 1 study guide in preparation for Wednesday’s test.

Tuesday – TTW review the study guide for Wednesday’s test. TSW record Chapter 2 Section 2 vocabulary in his/her blue folder or binder and complete Chapter 2 Section 2 in the workbook.

Homework: Please review your notes for tomorrow’s Chapter 2 Section 1 test.

Thursday – LESSON PLAN ADJUSTED (I was not present yesterday.) The Chapter 2 Section 1 test has been rescheduled for today. Yesterday, students were given a classwork assignment with a format similar to the test I will administer today. 2nd Period will be able to submit the Tracing Traits data tomorrow.

Homework: Collect data for your Tracing Traits inquiry.

Friday – 3rd & 4th period will receive details for the Tracing Traits inquiry. These two classes will need to submit the final report next Tuesday. 1st and 2nd period students who chose to complete the poster board assignment for the Tracing Traits inquiry must submit it today. 3rd and 4th period students may submit the poster board assignment next Friday.

TSW apply his/her knowledge of genetics to determine the genotype and phenotype of a bunny baby lab. TSW construct the bunny baby next Friday. TTW suggest various materials that TS may use to construct his bunny baby and TS will work with a partner to secure the materials to construct the baby during class next Friday.

This is a mini project and it is the responsibility of TS to secure all materials used.

Homework: Collect the materials you will use to construct your bunny baby next Friday. 3rd and 4th period should continue collecting data for the Tracing Traits inquiry.
