Monday – TTW conduct a review of last Friday’s Chapter 2 Test (The Chemistry of Life). TSW share their job descriptions for the building blocks of cells (protein, carbohydrates, lipids, DNA and ATP. TSW complete a pre-assessment activity for Chapters 3 and 4.

Homework: Read Chapter 3 Section 1 (Organization of Life) in your textbook and complete Chapter 3 Section 1 in your red workbook.

Tuesday – TTW review the directed reading workbook pages for Chapter 3 Section1. Using a Venn Diagram, TTW lead students in determining the relationships among cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, populations, communities and ecosystems. TSW create a graphic organizer that constructs the hierarchy from cell to ecosystem.

Homework: Complete today’s graphic organizer assignment and study the hierarchy form cell to ecosystem.

Enrichment: Write a commercial or create a brochure that encourages cells to join an organ or organ system or to remain a single cell. For example, a single cell might have independence but lack the help it needs to do its work. A tissue provides a cell with helpers that have similar interests, but it requires cooperation and good “intercellular skills. Be creative and feel free to use humor. Also, make sure that your work is neat/legible.

Should you choose to write a commercial, be sure to check for spelling and grammar. If more than one person is speaking, be sure to identify the individual characters.

Should you choose to create a brochure, again, be sure to check for spelling and grammar and make sure that it is visually appealing.

Wednesday – TSW complete the section review on page 60. TTW preview Chapter 3 Section 2 with students and illustrate the importance of cells maintaining a small surface to volume ratio.

Homework: Complete the Chapter 3 Section 1 Section Review on page 60 (Organization of Life). Read Chapter 3 Section 2 in your textbook.

Thursday – TSW complete the Science Think Link Learning Assessment.
Friday – TTW review directed reading workbook pages for Chapter 3 Section 2. Using a Venn Diagram, TTW contrast Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cells.

Homework: Complete Chapter 3 Section 2 in your red workbook (The Discovery of Cells).
