Monday - TSW complete Chapters 19 & 20 in the science workbook and watch a natural disasters video.

Tuesday - TSW complete Chapters 21 & 22 in the science workbook and watch a natural disasters video.

Wednesday - TSW complete a surviving natural disasters activity.

Thursday - TSW complete an activity on compassion and natural disasters which includes a 5 paragraph essay.

Homework:  Research a way to build a sound structure that would protect a raw egg if dropped at a distance of 8 feet.

Friday - TSW study water filtration systems.

Monday - TTW review lessons on atomic structure, electron dot configurations and introduce Lewis structures. TSW illustrate covalent bonds. (Some classes are ready to predict oxidation numbers for ionic bonding.)

Homework: Study your class notes and illustrate a covalent bond for Cl + CL and C + O.

THURSDAY, there will be a QUIZ over atomic structure, electron dot configurations and covalent bonding.

Tuesday - TSW illustrate covalent bonds and predict oxidation numbers for ionic bonding.

Wednesday - TSW illustrate ionic bonds and complete the chapter 19 review (textbook).

Homework: Study your class notes. Remember your quiz tomorrow over atomic structure, electron dot configurations and covalent bonding.

Classes will be shortened today due to the Choices program and an additional assembly.

Thursday - TSW demonstrate mastery of atomic structure, electron dot configurations and covalent bonding through a short quiz. TSW work in cooperative learning groups to record characteristics of covalent and ionic bonds.

Monday - TSW explore the structure of an atom. TSW record important terms for Chapter 19 and complete the workbook pages for Chapter 19. TTW discuss the size and charge of subatomic particles and TSW view BrainPop Videos on the Periodic Table and the Structure of atoms. The class will take the BrainPop Quiz.

Homework: Study Chapter 19 vocabulary. There will be a vocabulary quiz tomorrow.

Tuesday - TSW demonstrate mastery of key vocabulary terms for Chapter 19. TSW complete chapter 19 in the science workbook, explore the structure of an atom and determine the capacity of each energy level.

Homework:  Study your class notes.

Wednesday - TSW determine the valence electron number and create electron dot configurations for selected elements.

Homework: Study your class notes.

Thursday - TSW have an opportunity to complete an extra credit assignment: Examples, Generalizations & Analogies in Science. (Many students will be out of class for the choir competition.)

Homework: Study your class notes.

Friday - TSW covalently bond selected elements using electron dot configurations.

Dear Parent:

This week, I will guide students through the SCS Sex Respect Curriculum. If you choose not to allow your child to participate, please send a letter to Mr. Joy and an alternate assignment will be given. (Last week, I distributed letters written by the SCS Board of Education.) Here is a summary of the topics included in the curriculum: The Meaning of Real Love, Why Date?, Sexual Harassment, Saying No & Staying Cool and Selecting a Spouse

There will be NO grades given based on the Sex Respect Curriculum.

Monday - TCAP Review [TSW use his/her graphic organizer and notes from the beginning of the year (distributed Friday) to complete the Genetics/Meiosis Test from Q1. Group-work is allowed.]

Homework: Study your notes on tectonic plates, mitosis & meiosis, mutations.

Tuesday - TCAP Review (TSW complete a classwork assignment based on yesterday’s review.  TSW use his/her class notes and book to complete the Genes and Gene Technology Test from Q1.) TTW demonstrate the interaction between antacids and the human stomach lining as an illustration of indicator solution in acids and bases.

Homework: Study notes on acids and bases your graphic organizer of the Earth’s Structure and your notes on Biomes.

Wednesday - TCAP Review (TSW complete a classwork assignment based on yesterday’s review.  TSW complete the Gene and Gene Technology Test.  TTW illustrate endo/exothermic reactions and general factors that speed up chemical reactions.)

Monday - In Ms. Brown’s absence, TSW complete a TCAP practice tesst and Chapter 20 in the science workbook.

Homework:  None

Tuesday - TTW collect all assignments on Newton’s 1st Law of  Motion.  TTW introduce balancing equations.  TTW work several practice problems on the board and TSW complete practice problems independently.

Homework:  Complete the practice problems from today’s assignment and study the steps to balancing equations.

Wednesday - TTW collect all assignments for Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion.  TTW review yesterday’s assignment, TSW complete more practice work then complete a graded assignment on balancing equations.

Homework:  Study your practice problems and the stepst to balancing equations.  There will be a balancing equations quiz (that includes naming the first 20 elements) this Friday. 

Thursday - TTW collect all assignments for Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion.  TTW review more problems on balancing equations and demonstrate how to identify acids and bases.

Homework:  Study for tomorrow’s quiz.

Friday - TSW will demonstrate his or her understanding of balancing equations and identify the element names and symbols for the first 20 elements on the periodic table through a short quiz.

Don’t Forget: Your simple machines project is due this WEDNESDAY! See the class projects link for details.

There will be a quiz this FRIDAY over Physical and Chemical Properties & the first 20 elements of the Periodic Table.

Monday - TSW use schema to contrast physical and chemical properties of subtances, indicate compounds and identify elements and their symbols. TSW list each of Newton’s Laws and provide an example of each. (Spi 8.11.6 & 8.13.1)

Homework: Fill in any blanks from today’s classwork assignment. Complete Chapter 15 Section 2 in your workbook.

Tuesday - TTW review Ch. 15 Sec. 2 in the science workbook in preparation for FRIDAY’S QUIZ. TSW work in groups to answer questions related to physical and chemical properties of substances. TSW take notes on chemical and physical properties of substances. TTW review the first 20 elements in the periodic table orally (text p. 672-673) and the student will create a study guide for them.

Homework: Memorize elements 1-20 (text p. 672-673) and study your NOTES from Ch. 15 Sec. 2 in your workbook and from Lesson 34 (Physical and Chemical Properties) in the TCAP Coach Book. Remember, you will be tested over this material on FRIDAY.

Don’t forget, your simple machines project is due tomorrow.

Wednesday - TSW present his or her simple machines project. TTW review physical and chemical properties and introduce chemical reactions.

Homework: Study for this FRIDAY’S quiz.

Thursday - TSW meet with project groups to complete any unfinished business.  No group is to leave class without its paper written for Newton’s Laws of Motion.  TSW write 10 multiple choice questions for the scheduled quiz and make element flash cards.  TSW complete Chapter 15 Section 2 in the science workbook.

Homework:  Complete Chapter 15 Section 2 in your workbook and study for your quiz.

Friday - TSW recognize that the mass of the reactants is the same as the mass of the products, given simple chemical equations. Sp18.13.3

Don’t forget to work on your simple machines project so this week so that you don’t have to worry about it over spring break. 

Monday – TSW complete the 3rd Think Link Assessment for required for 8th grade science.  TSW complete a series of Think Link Practice Probes created by the teacher.

Homework:  Make sure that you have completed the following sections in your science workbook:  Ch. 16 Section 4, Chapter 17 Section 2 & Chapter 18 Sections 2-3.  You should have completed them all by last Thursday.

Tuesday – TTW conduct an oral review of the section reviews on textbook pages 463 – 467 and Chapter 17 section 2 in the science workbook.  TSW begin the chapter 17 Review.  Spi8.11.6

Homework:  Study the information we covered in class today.

Wednesday – TSW complete the chapter 17 Review and compare answers with group members.  TSW apply his or her understanding of forces in motion to a classwork assignment.  Spi8.11.1,3,4

Thursday – TSW apply his or her understanding of forces in motion to a classwork assignment.   Spi.8.11.1,3,4

Homework:  Finish your paper on your assigned Law of Motion.

Friday – TSW apply his or her understanding of simple machines to a classwork assignment.  TTW allow class time for students to meet regarding special projects before spring break.
